Syrian Foreign Ministry Denies Reuters Report on U.S. Bases in Syria

A senior official at the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday denied a Reuters report claiming that the United States is preparing to establish a military base near the Syrian capital, Damascus, asserting that the news is baseless, according to the official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
Reuters had earlier cited six informed sources suggesting that the United States was preparing to establish a military presence at an airbase inside Syrian territory to monitor an anticipated security agreement between Damascus and Tel Aviv.
The Syrian official stated that “the current phase marks a shift in the U.S. position toward direct engagement with the central Syrian government, supporting efforts to unify the country and rejecting any calls for division.”
He added that ongoing efforts aim to transfer previous partnerships and understandings — which were of a temporary and circumstantial nature — to Damascus, within the framework of political, military, and economic coordination.
The source concluded by affirming that Syria, in its new era, is moving forward toward consolidating stability and strengthening international cooperation based on national sovereignty and mutual respect, according to SANA.
