White House: Trump to Meet Syrian Interim President Al-Sharaa Next Monday

The White House announced on Tuesday that U.S. President Donald Trump will meet next Monday with Syrian Interim President Ahmad al-Sharaa in Washington, D.C.

According to the statement, the meeting comes as part of an official visit by the Syrian interim leader to the United States — his first trip to Washington and his second overall since attending the UN General Assembly meetings last September.

Earlier, U.S. Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barak indicated that al-Sharaa would visit Washington in November to sign an agreement formalizing Syria’s accession to the Global Coalition against ISIS.

The two leaders previously met for the first time in Riyadh last May during a regional summit, where President Trump pledged to lift U.S. sanctions on Syria if significant progress was achieved in security cooperation and counterterrorism efforts.
