Report: Al-Sharaa Establishing Political Party in Preparation for Transitional Phase

The Lebanese news outlet Al-Modon reported on Thursday that Syrian Interim Prime Minister Ahmad Al-Sharaa is preparing to launch a new political party as part of the arrangements for the country’s transitional phase, according to informed Syrian sources.

The sources said the announcement of the party comes ahead of the Political Parties Law stipulated in the latest constitutional declaration, noting that “the General Secretariat for Political Affairs, headed by Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani, along with its provincial offices, is directly overseeing the process of selecting the founding members.”

They added that preparations are being conducted with relative secrecy and within limited circles, with contacts established with several prominent political and social figures to join the new party through intermediaries close to the interim government.

While the sources did not disclose the names of those tasked with outreach, they confirmed that these individuals “are among those who previously held official positions and participated in political initiatives linked to the government.”

Talk of the new party’s establishment comes amid accelerated political developments in Syria related to drafting the new constitution and organizing party life ahead of the upcoming elections in the transitional phase.
