Israel Lifts State of Emergency in the South for the First Time Since the October 7 Attack

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant announced the end of the state of emergency imposed in southern Israel, marking the first time since the October 7, 2023, attack.

In a statement, Gallant explained that the decision was made based on a recommendation from the Israeli military, noting that “the new security situation in the south reflects the results of the decisive measures taken by Israeli forces over the past two years against Hamas.”

The state of emergency, known as the “special situation,” was declared across the entire country on the morning of October 7, 2023, granting the Home Front Command broad powers to restrict gatherings and close specific areas before later being limited to the south.

According to The Times of Israel, this status will expire tomorrow, Tuesday, marking the first time in more than two years that the “special situation” will not be in effect in any part of Israel.
