Al-Hajri: Self-Determination for the People of As-Suwayda Is an “Absolute Right,” Our Vision Is Based on Complete Independence

The spiritual leader of the Druze community in Syria, Sheikh Hikmat Al-Hajri, stated that the right to self-determination for the people of As-Suwayda is “absolute and non-negotiable,” affirming that the community’s vision is “based on full independence.”

In an interview with Sky News Arabia, Al-Hajri said that the number of kidnapped individuals in As-Suwayda exceeds 600, including women, noting that “the Syrian Transitional Government is obstructing any negotiations concerning them.”

He added that the authorities have yet to fulfill their commitment to evacuate the afflicted villages and continue to “distort the facts,” calling on the international community to recognize what he described as the “genocide faced by the people of As-Suwayda” and to reveal the truth about what occurred.

Al-Hajri’s remarks come amid rising tensions in As-Suwayda province, southern Syria, following the bloody events of July and the subsequent protests and local demands to strengthen security and expand the province’s self-administration.
