Truce Agreement Between Internal Security Forces and Foreign Fighters in Al-Firdan Camp, Idlib

The Internal Security Forces in the Harem area, northern Idlib, reached a truce agreement on Wednesday evening with a group of foreign fighters inside Al-Firdan Camp, following security tensions and armed escalation that erupted after the abduction of a girl over the past two days.

The western Idlib countryside witnessed a heavy deployment of General Security Forces after limited clashes near the camp, which houses families and members of foreign nationalities — among them the French national Omar Omsen, one of the most prominent foreign jihadist leaders in northwestern Syria.

A field source said the agreement was reached through the mediation of local dignitaries and foreign intermediaries, aiming to contain the tension and prevent further escalation between the two sides. The terms of the agreement included a ceasefire, an end to the state of mutual alert, the withdrawal of heavy weapons, and the cessation of media incitement between the parties.

The agreement also stipulated referring the dispute file to the Sharia judiciary within the Ministry of Justice for adjudication and addressing the case of leader Omar Omsen through the mediation of several prominent figures among the foreign fighters, including Abu Muhammad Turkistani, Abdulaziz Uzbeki, and Abu Anas Tajiki, according to the source.

The source explained that the agreement includes allowing security forces to regulate the situation inside the camp, in a step aimed at reimposing order and ensuring the safety of civilians residing there, stressing that the main goal is to prevent the camp from turning into a closed enclave for foreign fighters and to restrict weapons possession to official institutions.
