Homs: Workshop Explores War Crimes Documentation and Building Legal Files to Achieve Justice

A workshop organized by the Syrian Center for Legal Studies and Research, in cooperation with the Palace of Justice and the Bar Association, concluded today in the city of Homs. The workshop was held under the title: “Documenting War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity Committed During the Era of the Former Regime, and Building Legal Files to Achieve Justice for the Victims.”
The three-day workshop brought together legal experts, forensic doctors, and human rights specialists to discuss mechanisms for documenting violations and building comprehensive legal cases.
The workshop covered several key topics, including digital protection, documentation of physical injuries from both medical and legal perspectives, verification of open sources, and the role of the Bar Association in preparing legal files. It also reviewed international human rights laws and international criminal law.
Sessions addressed issues such as evidence classification, data analysis, and preparation of legal files, in addition to practical exercises simulating witness and victim hearings. These aimed to enhance participants’ capacities in gathering information and professionally documenting violations in a manner suitable for legal prosecution.
Organizers affirmed that the workshop is part of national efforts to strengthen the legal and judicial infrastructure in preparation for achieving transitional justice and ensuring redress for victims in accordance with international standards.
