Al-Shara to Visit Moscow Tomorrow, Wednesday

Moscow is preparing to receive Syrian President Ahmad Al-Shara for an official visit tomorrow, Wednesday, according to multiple Syrian sources.

Both Syrian TV channel “Syria,” the Saudi channel “Al-Hadath,” and the Syrian newspaper “Al-Watan” confirmed that Al-Shara will undertake an official visit to Russia on Wednesday, October 15 — his first visit to Moscow since assuming his duties.

This visit marks the first meeting between the Russian leadership and the head of the Syrian Interim Government following the formation of the interim government in Damascus.

It is worth noting that at the end of last July, a delegation representing the new Syrian authorities, headed by the interim government’s Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani, visited Moscow. The delegation included Defense Minister Murhaf Abu Qusra, Head of General Intelligence Hussein Al-Salama, Secretary-General of the President’s Office Maher Al-Shara, Foreign Minister’s Advisor Ibrahim Al-Alabi, and the Minister’s Office Director Mohsen Mahbash.

During the visit, Al-Shaibani held talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, met with Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov, and concluded the visit with a meeting between the Syrian delegation and President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin.

At the time, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that these meetings provided clear evidence of the beginning of rebuilding Syrian-Russian relations, enhancing regional balance, and expanding the capabilities of the Syrian state.

On October 13, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said during a meeting with journalists from Arab countries that Damascus is interested in maintaining Russian military bases in Syria, noting that under the new circumstances, these bases could be repurposed to carry out new missions.

The Syrian Embassy in Moscow also announced that Al-Shara would lead the Syrian delegation to the Russian-Arab summit originally scheduled for October 15 in Moscow. However, Russian President Vladimir Putin decided to postpone the summit due to Trump’s plan in Gaza.
