Syria Requires Producers and Importers to Display Final Consumer Prices on Goods to Protect Consumers

The Syrian Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade has issued a decision obligating all producers and importers to clearly mark the final consumer price on products, aiming to enhance transparency and protect consumer rights.

According to the decision, the price must be written clearly and legibly in Arabic, using a visible font that cannot be erased or removed. It is prohibited to trade, display, sell, or store any goods that do not carry the final consumer price.

The decision also allows retailers to sell goods at a price lower than the marked price, without exempting producers or importers from the obligation to set the final price in advance.

The ministry granted a deadline until December 31st of the current year to clear out products without marked prices, provided that the prices of such goods are clearly displayed on storefronts and sales areas.

The ministry confirmed that this measure is part of efforts to regulate markets, reduce fraud and price manipulation, and guarantee consumers the right to prior knowledge of product prices. It also clarified that violations of this decision will be punished in accordance with applicable laws and regulations in the country.

This decision is expected to boost consumer confidence and contribute to greater stability in Syrian markets.
