Egypt: Three Qatari Diplomats Killed in Car Accident Near Sharm El-Sheikh

The Qatari Embassy in Cairo announced on Sunday the death of three members of the Qatari Amiri Diwan in a car accident that occurred in South Sinai, near the city of Sharm El-Sheikh. Two other accompanying individuals were injured.

In an official statement, the embassy said it is closely monitoring the condition of the injured, who are currently receiving treatment at Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital, expressing its “deep sorrow” over the loss of its employees in the accident.

Egyptian security sources reported that the accident happened when the vehicle carrying the Qatari delegation overturned on a curve about 50 kilometers from Sharm El-Sheikh.

The accident comes days after high-level diplomatic meetings were held in Sharm El-Sheikh, bringing together representatives from Qatar, Turkey, and Egypt. These meetings resulted in a preliminary agreement between Israel and Hamas as part of a U.S.-proposed plan for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Sharm El-Sheikh is expected to host an international summit in the coming days to discuss the details of the agreement.

Neither Egyptian nor Qatari authorities have reported any criminal suspicion, while official investigations continue to determine the circumstances of the accident.
