Druze spiritual leader urges international community to act on Syrian Druze Mountain siege

Sheikh Hikmat Salman al-Hajri, the spiritual leader of the Druze sect in Syria, has issued an urgent humanitarian appeal to the United Nations and international organizations, calling for immediate intervention to lift the siege imposed on the Druze Mountain areas and secure safe humanitarian corridors for the delivery of essential aid.

According to a statement released by al-Hajri’s office on October 9, 2025, residents of the Druze Mountain are facing dire living and humanitarian conditions, marked by a severe shortage of basic necessities such as food, medicine, fuel, and water, in addition to power outages, communication disruptions, and obstruction of humanitarian aid, which has led to the suspension of many public and service institutions in the region.

The statement highlighted the deteriorating health situation in the area and reported cases of arrests and restrictions on local residents, calling on the international community, the United Nations, and the Security Council to take immediate action to lift the siege and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to those affected.

The spiritual leader demanded the withdrawal of armed groups from Druze Mountain villages and the return of lands to their recognized administrative boundaries. He also called for the formation of an independent UN committee to investigate the situation and submit a formal report to the Security Council.

The statement concluded by affirming the commitment of the Druze community to civil peace and Syrian unity, rejecting involvement in any internal conflict, and calling for respect for human rights and an end to all violations against civilians in the region.
