Senator Joe Wilson Welcomes the Repeal of the “Caesar Act” and Considers It a New Beginning for Syria’s Success

Republican U.S. Senator Joe Wilson expressed his approval of the U.S. Senate’s decision to repeal the “Caesar Act” as part of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), stating that this step marks the beginning of a new phase in handling the Syrian issue.
In a tweet posted on the X platform, Wilson affirmed that the sanctions imposed under the “Caesar Act” targeted a regime that “fortunately no longer exists,” emphasizing that Syria’s future and its political and economic success depend on the full repeal of these sanctions.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Alaa Ghanem, a member of the Syrian American Council, stated that the Senate voted overwhelmingly with 77 votes in favor and 22 against to pass the Department of Defense budget bill, which included a clear provision to completely repeal the “Caesar Act” by the end of this year without any additional conditions.
Ghanem described this development as a “dramatic victory” and an indication of a fundamental shift in U.S. policy toward Syria, after years of stringent economic sanctions.
