Humanitarian Crisis in Deir Hafer: Road Closures Threaten Civilians’ Lives

The city of Deir Hafer in the eastern countryside of Aleppo is witnessing difficult humanitarian and living conditions due to the continued closure of the vital road linking the city to Aleppo. This has led to a decline in commercial activity and essential services in the area.

Adnan Al-Mohammad, one of the city’s notable figures, told DELIL24 agency that residents face daily challenges because of the halted transportation between Deir Hafer and Aleppo. He pointed out that the closure has caused shortages of food and medical supplies, as well as increased living costs.

He added that private hospitals in the city suffer from major difficulties due to the absence of medical staff coming from Aleppo, which has negatively affected the quality of healthcare services provided to the population. He noted the occurrence of critical medical cases that were unable to receive timely ambulance services.

Al-Mohammad referred to an incident in which a woman died recently at one of the checkpoints due to delayed emergency medical transport, stressing that this incident reflects the scale of the humanitarian suffering endured by the residents and the urgent need to find solutions to ensure freedom of movement and access to essential services.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining the unity of Syrians and their solidarity in facing the current circumstances, stating, “Religion is for God and the land is for all.” He called for preserving the spirit of coexistence that has characterized Deir Hafer for many decades among the various components of society.

Al-Mohammad urged the relevant authorities to take swift measures to reopen the main roads and facilitate the movement of civilians and goods between cities, alleviating the suffering of residents and supporting efforts toward stability and economic development.
