200 Tons of Flour Arrive in As-Suwayda to Rescue Stalled Bakeries

As-Suwayda – A humanitarian aid convoy carrying approximately 200 tons of flour has arrived in As-Suwayda Governorate via the Damascus-As-Suwayda road, under the supervision of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent and as part of the World Food Programme.
This step comes within the framework of UN efforts to secure basic supplies for residents amid deteriorating living and economic conditions in the region over recent months.
Public and private bakeries in As-Suwayda had stopped operations days ago due to a shortage of flour, following the ongoing siege imposed on the governorate and the suspension of government wheat and flour supplies since July.
According to local sources, As-Suwayda requires around 120 tons of flour daily to meet the population’s needs, while only limited quantities amounting to a few small trucks have arrived during the past week.
Last Thursday, two aid trucks entered As-Suwayda city—one carrying food supplies, and the other a small quantity of flour—accompanied by Red Crescent teams via the Damascus-As-Suwayda road.
