US Forces Targeted in Armed Attack in Rural Deir Ezzor

Local sources reported that armed assailants targeted a US convoy yesterday, Saturday, while it was conducting a joint patrol with the Syrian Democratic Forces in eastern Deir Ezzor countryside.
According to North Press Agency, the attackers opened fire on US vehicles near the village of Al-Masri, north of Al-Busayrah town, while the forces returned fire using the mounted machine guns on their vehicles. The report indicated that the attackers had been hiding in a nearby field along the patrol route.
A spokesperson from the International Coalition accused Islamic State (ISIS) cells of being behind the attack and confirmed that an investigation into the incident has been launched.
Despite the coalition evacuating some of its bases in Deir Ezzor countryside in recent periods, its military patrols continue to operate frequently in the area.
