Al-Sheibani Appreciates Barak’s Support and Affirms: The Voice of Syrians Has Reached Washington

Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Sheibani expressed his gratitude for the support of U.S. Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barak, emphasizing that the Syrian delegation’s visit to Washington provided an important opportunity to convey the voice of the Syrian people to the U.S. Congress and State Department.
Al-Sheibani shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account a photo of himself with Barak, expressing his appreciation for Barak’s active participation in the visit, which witnessed the raising of the Syrian flag over the Syrian Embassy in Washington—a move he described as a “message of pride and honor for the Syrian people.”
The minister added that meetings with U.S. officials allowed highlighting the priorities and issues of Syrians on the international stage, stressing that “Syria always deserves the best.”
Historic Visit
Al-Sheibani arrived in Washington last Thursday on what was described as a “historic” visit—the first by a Syrian foreign minister in 25 years—according to a statement from the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which considered the visit a “turning point” in Syrian-American relations after decades of interruption.
Official Talks
The statement explained that discussions focused on ways to responsibly and securely reconnect the Syrian economy with the global financial system, thereby enhancing joint efforts to combat terrorism financing.
In an official meeting held on Friday, Al-Sheibani met with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, where both sides discussed bilateral relations and prospects for their development.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of State announced that Landau and the Special Envoy for Syria discussed with Minister Al-Sheibani the future of Syria, Syrian-Israeli relations, and the implementation of the agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
