Security Tightening in Damascus Amid Tensions in the South

Today, Damascus witnessed a heavy security presence in areas including Sahnaya and Ashrafieh, where checkpoints intensified inspections of vehicles and pedestrians, according to reporters from Delil24.

Statement from Southern Tribes

Simultaneously, the southern tribes issued a strongly worded statement directed at local factions in Sweida, demanding the release of detainees held by these groups within ten days and threatening a “comprehensive war” if their demands are not met. The tribes also declared that they have raised their readiness to the highest level.

Protests on the Damascus–Sweida Road

Protests have resumed on the road connecting Damascus and Sweida, with tribe members demanding the return of displaced people to their homes and the provision of basic living conditions for thousands of families. The relocation of some families from Harjalah residences to former military sites has sparked discontent among protesters, who expressed fears about being left exposed outdoors.

Complicating the Situation

Observers believe these developments pose a challenge to the ceasefire agreements in place in the region and further complicate the security and social conditions in southern Syria.
