Erdogan to Visit the White House on Thursday to Discuss Trade and Military Issues

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he will meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan next Thursday at the White House, following their participation in the United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York.
Trump stated on the “Truth Social” platform that the discussions will cover trade and military matters, highlighting work on closing two major deals involving the sale of Boeing aircraft and F-16 fighter jets to Turkey. Additionally, talks regarding the F-35 aircraft program will continue.
The U.S. president expressed optimism that the discussions about the F-35 program will conclude positively.
This will be Erdogan’s first visit to Washington since 2019, during Trump’s first term. Over recent years, Ankara and Washington have held talks over Turkey’s acquisition of F-35 stealth fighters amid disagreements over program participation conditions.
