U.S. Media: Arrangements Underway for Upcoming Meeting Between Trump and Al-Sharaa in New York

American network CBS reported on Friday that arrangements are underway for a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and his Syrian counterpart Ahmad Al-Sharaa on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings scheduled in New York from September 22 to 30.
A Syrian Foreign Ministry official stated that Al-Sharaa will participate in the 80th session of the General Assembly, making him the first Syrian president to attend its high-level week and the first to address it since former President Nureddin al-Atassi in 1967.
This development comes amid diplomatic outreach efforts toward the transitional authority in Damascus, which has been gaining increasing regional and international support since assuming power.
It is worth noting that Al-Sharaa previously met with U.S. President Donald Trump in May during a summit hosted by Saudi Arabia and also made an official visit to Paris, where he was received by French President Emmanuel Macron.
