Iraq Announces Killing of a Senior ISIS Leader in A Joint Operation Inside Syria…

Iraq’s Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS) announced on Friday the execution of a high-level security operation inside Syrian territory, carried out in coordination with the International Coalition forces. The operation resulted in the killing of a senior ISIS leader, Omar Abdulqader Bassam, also known as Abdulrahman al-Halabi.

According to a statement issued by the CTS, al-Halabi was in charge of external operations and security within the organization. He was allegedly involved in planning attacks both in the region and abroad, including the bombing of the Iranian embassy in Lebanon, as well as thwarted attempts to carry out operations in Europe and the United States, foiled through intelligence efforts.

The statement added that the operation followed months of precise intelligence tracking and judicial coordination within Iraq. The target’s movements were monitored, and his location was pinpointed before an airstrike by Coalition forces successfully eliminated him.

The CTS described al-Halabi’s death as a significant strategic loss for the organization. It noted that the strike was part of a series of operations conducted over the past two months, which, according to the statement, have led to the killing of more than six top-tier ISIS leaders.

The Counter-Terrorism Service affirmed its commitment to continuing the pursuit of ISIS remnants wherever they may be, aiming to eliminate them and dismantle the ideological roots of the group. So far, no independent confirmation of the operation or its exact location has been issued by local or international parties.
