French Foreign Ministry Welcomes Roadmap to Resolve Suwayda Crisis

Paris – On Wednesday, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the roadmap announced by Syria, with support from Jordan and the United States, aimed at addressing the crisis in Suwayda province.

Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani revealed on Tuesday a six-step roadmap that includes holding perpetrators accountable, ensuring the flow of aid, compensating those affected, restoring villages and basic services, deploying local forces affiliated with the Ministry of Interior, securing roads, uncovering the fate of the missing, and launching a path toward internal reconciliation.

Following the announcement, the Higher Legal Committee in Suwayda issued a statement rejecting the contents of the Syrian Foreign Ministry’s announcement, considering it “an attempt to evade responsibility and entrench impunity.”

For its part, the French Foreign Ministry described the roadmap as “an encouraging first step toward lasting de-escalation,” emphasizing in an official post the importance of continued dialogue to implement it swiftly on the ground.
