After Conflicting Reports… Signs of Torture Appear on the Body of a Detainee in Homs

Homs – The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has obtained images of the body of a young Christian man from the village of Kafra in Wadi al-Nasara region, who died approximately 15 days after being detained in al-Balouna prison in Homs. The photos show clear signs of torture and multiple bruises on his body.

Conflicting Accounts of the Cause of Death

While security authorities informed the victim’s family that the cause of death was a heart attack, sources close to the young man confirmed that he died as a result of severe torture during his detention.

Arrested on Grounds of a “Food Regulation Violation”

The young man was arrested on August 25 on what was described as a “food regulation violation.” During his detention, he was reportedly subjected to harsh torture and forced to give false confessions, according to statements from his family. Initially, security agencies denied holding him, before suddenly announcing his death.

Strict on the Burial Procedures

Sources close to the victim reported that authorities refused to hand over the body to the family and forced them to sign documents for its receipt without allowing them to open the coffin or hold a funeral ceremony. Burial was carried out under tight security measures.
