At a Protest Stand… Daraa Farmers and Traders Demand a Ban on Vegetable Imports and Protection of Local Production

Daraa Governorate: Farmers and fruit and vegetable traders in the city of Daraa organized a stand in front of the governorate building, during which they demanded a halt to the import of vegetables from abroad, considering that this harms local crops and weakens the farmers’ ability to market their produce.

The protesters pointed out that the accumulation of agricultural products in the markets has caused them significant financial losses, amid the continuous rise in farming costs and the difficulty of obtaining production supplies.

The participants warned that the continuation of this situation might lead many farmers to stop cultivating their lands, which would negatively impact local food security and the daily livelihoods of the governorate’s residents.

The protest reflects the difficult reality faced by farmers and traders in Daraa, due to the decline in crop prices and the rise in production costs, amid the continued absence of official support.
