As-Suwayda Faces an Unprecedented Educational Crisis: Thousands of Students Deprived of Education

As-Suwayda Governorate is witnessing a severe collapse in its educational reality, with no fewer than 6,200 students prevented from sitting for their high school certificate exams this year, amid governmental disregard for their demands, according to local sources.

Information indicates that more than 30,000 students have lost their school seats after being displaced from 32 villages that were completely destroyed, while over 40,000 university students face extreme difficulties in continuing their education, as sectarian threats have reached even the teaching staff within universities.

The crisis worsened with the conversion of most schools in the area into shelters for displaced persons, deepening the educational gap and leaving children and adolescents deprived of their natural right to learn.

Human rights organizations warn that the continuation of this catastrophic situation threatens the loss of an entire generation’s future, calling on the international community and humanitarian organizations to urgently intervene to protect students’ right to education and to limit the destruction of what remains of Syria’s educational sector.
