Nechirvan Barzani Receives a Turkish Delegation to Discuss Partnership and Regional Developments

Erbil – The President of the Kurdistan Region of Northern Iraq, Nechirvan Barzani, received a Turkish delegation today, Tuesday, 2nd September, 2025. The delegation was led by Ambassador Ali Reza Gunay, Director General of Iraq and Iran Affairs at the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and attended by the Turkish Consul General in Erbil.
The two sides discussed the course of relations between Turkey and both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, with both parties emphasizing their commitment to developing and expanding bilateral cooperation across various fields. The talks also touched upon the relations between Erbil and Baghdad and the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections.
According to a statement issued by the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region, the meeting also addressed recent security developments in the region and the latest events in Syria and the Middle East, alongside discussions on their repercussions and issues of common interest.
Both parties stressed the importance of strengthening the existing partnership between the two sides to contribute to achieving regional stability and opening broader horizons for joint cooperation.
